Australian Avicultural Census
I got a message from a mate one day and it read: "Hello there, how hard would it be to set up a website where birdos could go and put how many birds by species they have, in others words an Australian avicultural census?"
I responded with: "I would have to have a look at the best way to do it but I would think it would be easy."
Was I wrong or what?! But here we are, after weeks of work I've got the census ready for people to complete. We will close the census on ??? after which time we will be able to look at the data and decide how best to release it.

Why we are doing this?
One of the best reason for doing this census is to find out what we have here in Australia and it can tell aviculturists what species we need to work on to increase their numbers so we don't lose them. If we do it over a few yeas it will also give us an early warning for species that are starting to decline so we can save them early.
How you can help?
The best way for you to help is to complete the census and then share it with other people so they can also complete the census. It has taken a lot of time to get to this point and we will spent a lot of time looking at the data and making it available to the public so to help cover the costs a small donation would really help us out.
How many species are listed in the census?
We have looked everywhere to find out what might be in the country and we put together a list of about 500 species with about a 50/50 split of natives and exotics.
What next?
If we have a good response from this census will would like to do one to workout prices guides for each state but the goal is to put together an app where we can trade our birds and the information about what birds we have and their prices can be collected in that app and updated regularly.
